As Americans, we love to eat out. So much in fact that the National Restaurant Association estimates we will have spent $537 billion on eating out in 2007.  On any typical day during 2007, that amounts to Americans spending an estimated $1.5 billion in restaurants or related dining establishments. This very sizable amount of money we spend each year leaves opportunities open for each of us to save money.

Coupons are a great way to save money at your favorite local or chain restaurant. Almost every restaurant uses coupons as a component of their marketing to entice consumers to come and eat for a reduced price. Coupons can be found in your local newspaper or weekly mailer and can provide a significant savings on the cost of your meal. However, finding a coupon for your favorite restaurant is not always easy or even possible.

An easy way to save money at restaurants is to use a cash back credit card. To help you earn cash back with every restaurant purchase, there are several cash back credit cards which can help you earn a rebate of at least 1% and up to 5%. Using a credit card is an alternative to using cash or a debit because you earn some kind of reward. Cash back is the most common type of reward card, but many other credit cards offer points, miles and more.

Next time you go out to eat, don’t just get the complimentary breathe mint, but earn some cash back with cash back credit cards. That $537 billion the National Restaurant Association estimates we spent in 2007 can add up to a lot of cash in our pockets, even at 1%! You do the math.
