Bank of America Brighter Planet Visa® Card
Bank of America has announced the release of the Brighter Planet Visa® card. The official release was announced at the Good and Green Marketing Conference in Chicago. Bank of America has teamed up with Brighter Planet™ to offer a credit card that helps consumers minimize their contribution to climate change and invest in clean, renewable energy sources.
Consumers who use the Bank of America Brighter Planet card earn EarthSmart™ points that are used to build community-based renewable energy projects. For every $1 you spend, you will earn you one EarthSmart™ point and 1,000 EarthSmart™ is estimated to purchase an amount equal to one ton of carbon offets. As an added bonus, Bank of America will also make a matching contribution to Brighter Planet™ of one point for every two points you earn until December 2008. Applicants will also receive a 1,000 EarthSmart™ bonus when they apply. Cardholders who elect to receive electronic statements will also receive a 1,000 EarthSmart™ bonus.
Brighter Planet has teamed up with carbon offset provider NativeEnergy. NativeEnergy is committed to investing only in emission reductions programs beyond business-as-usual and that provide real social value to the communties they serve. Regular project reviews and evaluations by Brighter Planet’s highly regarded Project Selection Committee will occur. Brighter Planet’s Project Selection Committee is run by some of the world’s leading environmentalist.
Cardholders can also calculate their carbon footprints online; learn ways to their environmental impact, learn how to get more involved in the green movement, monitor projects their points go towards and view their own emission reduction progress by visiting Brighter Planet’s website.
