Credit cards are not just debt
There seems to be a stereotype that no matter what - a credit card equals debt. It is simply not true. With discipline, a credit card can be a fantastic tool that can help to build good credit, keep your finances organized, help control your budget and even earn rewards towards things you may not typically have the extra funds for.
Credit cards, in general, carry a negative connotation, mostly because for so many people they have created a large source of unsecured debt. It doesn’t have to be this way, however. Instead of using a credit card as an advance or a way to supplement your income, credit cards should be used as just another form of payment - one that gives back, if you will. Why use a debit card to pay for your groceries when you could use your credit card? By doing so, you could possibly (depending on the card you have) earn rewards points that can pay for vacations, cash to contribute to your favorite charity, or help save for your child’s college fund (just to name a few). When you use your credit card to pay for monthly expenses and then pay it off at the end of each month with the budgeted money, you are farther with your money. Why throw money away straight out of your bank account when you could spend it and have it come back to you?
There’s no smarter way to handle your finances than to use your credit card as a positive and beneficial building block to better credit and stretching your wallet. Are credit cards for everyone? No, but they can be for more people than you may think.
